THE TOM SWIFT SERIES

This Stratemeyer Syndicate series remained in print, in various forms, over 90 years! The original series consisted of 38 books and two Better Little Books published between 1910 and 1941. Authorship of the first 35 volumes is generally credited to Howard R. Garis. The final five titles are purported to have been written by Harriet Adams, daughter of Edward Stratemeyer, although some sources credit John Arthur Almquist with volumes # 23, 39 & 40. The second set, called The Tom Swift Jr. Series, consists of 33 titles published from 1954 through 1971. Ghostwriters for the Tom Swift Jr. books include John Almquist, Vincent Buranelli, William Dougherty, James Lawrence, Richard McKenna, Thomas Mulvey and Richard Sklar. The third Tom Swift series was issued by Wanderer between 1981 and 1984. This series consists of 11 books and one phantom title. The Wanderer editions were primarily marketed as paperbacks, however, volumes one through nine were also published in hardcover with dust jackets. The fourth Tom Swift series was published in paperback by Archway between 1991 and 1993. This series consists of 13 titles and two companion books issued as Hardy Boys & Tom Swift Ultra Thrillers.
